Lobster?

I have read some accounts that say these are reef safe and others that say otherwise. Has anyone had one in a reef tank?
Any input?
thanks
Derek

You can see a picture of mine at www.theboatstore.org/fish He's getting big now so I keep him well feed, it has grabbed the tail's of a couple fish but so far they have been able to get away. I've had him allmost 2 years. When he was small I thought it had died, I hadn't seen it for 6mo. then when I changed tanks he scared the crap out of me he came out of nowhere.

Epidemic,

What sort are you referring to? There are a number of different types available, including the various so-called reef lobsters (which are sort of like fancy, colorful crayfish), and another (that I used to see listed for sale by Flying Fish Express) that is a close relative of the spiny lobsters that people catch to eat in the Fl Keys and Caribbean. Surely the answer will depend on the type of lobster.

(Then of course, there are also the Maine lobsters...darn cool animals, but not exactly tropcial, and I suspect this is not what you had in mind!)

Having said this, I'll also say that I have not kept any of them. I'd bet the reef lobsters would be safe with corals (but not fish or smaller inverts of other types), but I will defer to someone who has definite experience with these animals.

There are exceptions to the rule and many types/kinds of lobsters for the most part they are NOT reef safe. Better to set a small tank by it self
