Lettuce Nudibranch

Anyone had experience with a lettuce nudibranch eating green hair algae. I'm thinking about trying it.

My tank is full of green hair algae, and I'm not sure I'm winning.

I've tried almost everything - urchin, reduced light, changed filter cartridge, added carbon, frequent water changes, snails, hermits, and nothing is working.

My next thing is to check TDS and see what my RO unit is putting out.

Any more advice?

Ever tried a Rabbitfish? Not the typical foxface. I have had great success with rabbitfish.

Dwayne,
Any chance you can be a little more specific on what rabbitfish you've had good luck with. I'm in a similar boat as alligator, and would like to try and find something to battle the hair algae.

Sure.

I have tried two different ones. The Gold Spot Rabbitfish and the Scribbled Rabbitfish. Both worked well, but the Scribbled is better suited for reef tank because of its size.

Rabbitfish are different than the Foxface in many ways, but most noticeble is the mouth. Rabbitfish have a rounded mouth as opposed to the elongated snout of the Foxface. I know that the foxface and rabbitfish are in the same science dictated family, but so are clownfish and damsels.

My rabbitfish eats bryopsis, hair algae, turf algae, some valonia and other stuff I dont even the name. My tank is clean of any nusiance algae except cyano. I know others have tried the rabbitfish and have had the same results.

The rabbitfish is a definite keeper in my book, here is a link to some info rabbitfish. And as a shameless plug, I got both at Something Fishy.

I only have a 55 gallon tank, and I'm not sure I can keep a fish this size.

Plus, here is my current stock:

Yellow-headed jawfish
2 Bangaii Cardinals
3 Red Fairy Wrasses
Diadema Urchin
2 Pepermint Shrimp

What else does anyone recommend? I'm pulling this stuff out by the truckload.

Dwayne,
Thanks for the info. By any chance do you know the scientific name of the scribbled? Looked through the website and didn't see that name mentioned, but will prolly go with that one, since you think it is more reef appropriate. Heck, I could prolly get one of each with all the hair algae in there.
