Rich, how long did you have to wait? I got up early, as you can see. Milk and cookies were gone and all that I got was a lump of coal. Hmmm, or is that carbon to make a charcoal filter??

jeff-
when life gives you lemons make lemonade.
i waited for awhile but soon realized that referee 127's arse on a platter what gonna be a tough wish for santa to fulfill. but my parents hooked me up with the camera i've been eyeing, just in time too so i can take pics of the RTN racing through my SPS not sure what good can come of that vikes loss or my coral meltdown...

Rich,
Dopey me....what is RTN and what does it do to your SPS? What ever it is, I hope the damage is minimal. But, if 4x96pc would help ya....just kidding.
What did you get for a camara? I got a Nikon 3200. Now if I can figure out how to post I will show you your creation.

Rapid Tissue Recrosis, the tissue on sps with start to recede from the base of the coral up, untill there is no living tissue left. It happens very fast hence "rapid", hope it stops TG. You should try putting a ring of super glue around some healthy tissue to try and stop it from receding.

hey guys-
a colony i got from bill-that was really getting its color back since the return to 10K-just started looking drab the other day. next morning it was gone-totally. then last night two well established frag/mini colonies (neighbors to the previously affected one)-seemingly super happy and healthy went overnight. there was no stopping it because there was no reason to suspect a problem. polyps extended, colorful, etc yesterday-gone today-freaking snow white. i'll keep an eye on things closely over the next few days. devin-i got the 3200 also-my girlfriend jess got an olympus d580 from her parents. we just have to decide if we need two new cameras. one of em is getting fired up soon though-i know that much!

Yikes Rich. What causes something like that to sweep through your corals, and so fast too. As reef smart as you are too. All I can say is i must be lucky...or it's hard to kill mushrooms. jk So far I like the 3200, but it does eat batteries. Picked up some kriptonite rechargables...much better. Let me know what you decide to do or keep.

that's the million dollar question!
water quality, water movement, lil red bugs, bad luck have all been implicated, maybe even inadequate lighting. if it were the bugs though (in this case) it would have been three entirely different corals. that is-the three that died were a millepora, a green slimer (stag) and another purplish blue stag. stags and milles seem less affected by the bugs. the stags are generally really slimey which prolly helps them shed bugs. the milles-don't know why they aren't affected-maybe those waving long polyps brush the LRBs away.
as far as cameras go-i have some NiMH rechargeables already-and battery life is one of the biggest knocks on both of these cameras (nikon 3200, olympus D580). anyone have experience with a camera that uses a rechargeable lithium cell? i know some cameras can use an adapter with more std lithium batteries but i'm more interested in the built in/plug the camera in to recharge variety.

I got a Nikon 3200 around October. My real complaint is the time after you take a picture for the flash to fire again. Are you guys also seeing this. I have 1800mah rechargable AA bateries but thinging about getting the rechargeable pack that is specifically for the Nikon to see if there isn't such the delay. My relative got a 4100 for Christmas that comes with battery pack and doesn't see the delay......
Also I have the same triplight model and love it. Now that my system is much smaller 2 165amp marine batteries will keep the return pump ( Ocean Runner 2500 ) running for 48+ hours.

David- most of the lower end camera's I have used have a long delay with the flash.(these are 3 sony's and a couple nikons) I have tried numberous batteries and none of them have made any change. so I would say save your money on batteries and see about an external flash adapter. they are powered seperate so no power loss for the camera.
