It's beginning to look a lot like XMas?!?!?!
My dad lives in Northfield. Here's the view from his front door earlier today...He said he went down to his car dealership later on, and every single car on the lot is totaled.

To bad insurance doesn't pay double on a natural disaster. Glad to hear he is ok. The hail was not the worst of things yesterday, but that hail was huge in those pics. Did you grow up in Northfield?

I was sitting with our Chryler Financial rep when he got the call from Dokmo stateing the damage they recieved. Over 90% of the windows on all the cars were shattered, fiberglass panels had holes in them and all the awning were destroyed. A couple of benches out side were smashed in half, they said it was like meteor shower. One of our sales guys lives down that way and brought in a cooloer full of the hail from his yard and I have never seen hail that big in my life....

Northfield is my hometown!! 25 year reunion this month... I haven't lived there for years although my Mom, Dad, and Sister still live there. My mom's, my brother inlaw's, and all other cars outside were wrecked by the hail. Amazing nobody was killed.
I feel horrible for the Dokmo's they are close family friends.

So what happens to the cars after this happens? Do they get the "totalled" stamp on the paperwork? Do they sell them cheap? I really need a new car asap and this might warrrent looking around. Any subaru dealerships is shakope or northfield?

Hail sales aren't what they used to be 10 years ago. An adjuster will come out and appraise the vehicle. Those vehicles are then given an amount. The dealer than will get the set amount per vehicle. They then have to either fix the vehicle or sell it as is. With insurance rates at most stores ours included the deductible is $1000 per car, per occurance. (it may be different elsewhere. With the advanvces in paintless dent removal the adjustments from insurance companies have dropped way down. In the past hail sales were great because the insurance company would reimburse the dealer for redoing all the body panels which could be in the upwards of $5000 per car. If it was really lite hail that you could barely see they could sell the vehicle for $2000 less and make $3000 more than they normally would. Sounds like a great deal? It is all a perception thing, the same adjustment now adays on a lightly damaged car would be around $1000 tops and done by paintless dent repair. Then figure in your deductible. It is all perception just like employee pricing is. The same vehicle is anywhere from $1000-$2500 more during employee pricing compared to what it was 2-3 months ago.
The last hail storm that came through here about 5 years ago they only reimbursed us about $500 a car, the damage was so minimal you could barely see it but advertise a hail sale and the people come flocking to buy damaged vehicles. Buying a hail damaged vehicle also voids the vehicles paint and perforation warranty, which is not good. As far as Subarus dealerships are concerend I don't know of any but I am sure there is one just over the rainbow

Oh the price will sometimes go down but you get what you are paying for, IMO and IME it is not worth it.

Well both most probally won't be totalled and given branded titles alot depends on the value of the vehicle and the amount of damage.

Owatonna was hit hard by wind and some hail on the NE side of town. I drove up there a few minutes ago and it was bad. There are few trees that didn't sustain damage. There are houses with trees down on them, cars...it is a mess
