ID Puffer Please!


I took in a puffer today.
Local had to take tank down ASAP.
what type of puffer is it?
Looking on-line, but cant see any photos the look just like it.
I put it in my 55....it seems happy.
it also seems to be sifting my sand bed?....do they do this?
its about 5".

it looks like the striped or narrow lined puffer(Arothron manilensis). they like to partially bury themselves in the sand. can grow to 20 inches.

I have kept looking; and yes, striped dogface seems to be a close fit.
did not see anything on the sand sifting............

That's a Stripped Puffer.

Feed him shimp, krill, mussels etc. They get big, so if you want to keep him long term, you'll need an upgrade.

They don't sand sift, but my rest partially in the sandbed.

My dogface likes to blow water at the substrate - its how he looks for food (when he's not frantically signalling me from the tank - he loves to eat!). He is also been known to spew water at me from the water surface if I don't get the krill in fast enough to suit him.

It is a cool fish.......it seems to be taking in sand and its comming out its gills.

does not look like its blowing.......i will feed it today for the first time.
