IC 660 help
I'm going to contact IC, but here is what is going on. I got a used IC 660 a little while ago, I wired up bulbs per IC's wiring diagram, hook up the ballast and 1 bulb comes on and off rightaway. Thinking it was the ballast I tried it on my 125 which is running with a 660 also, and it did the same thing. So the person sent me a new one. As soon as I got it I tested it on my 125 and it worked fine. So I hook it up to my 3 bulb canopy for my Wife's tank and same thing happens as before, 1 bulb comes on and goes off. So I hook it to my 125 and wouldn't you know, it comes on and goes off right away.
So now I wonder if it's something with my wiring on the 3 bulb combo, I re-checked and re-checked and it all matches up. So did I ruin my ballast? The fuse is fine.

hmm, for some reason it is sensing an imbalance and is turning itself off. I'm going to work on a solution and get back to you. I assume you've done the typical wiggling of bulbs in their sockets? Are you using powercompacts?

No 36"x3 VHO. Didn't do wiggling. I'll try that, but why would it do it in my 125 afterwards? My other 660 works fine on the 125.

Well I went back to 2-bulb config and it works fine. I don't understand why it wouldn't work on the 3 bulb config, but atleast I got it up and running again! 2 bulbs are fine since I am going to toss a MH over it also as soon as I get a mogul.

I ran into the same problem, and traced it back to a bad wire connection. 2 bulb config would work just fine, when I wired the 3rd bulb in it would flicker and turn off.
I am assuming you are using the plastic waterproof endcaps. Push the wire in (but not too far) and give it a slight pull, like you are removing the wire, this helps the connection with the endcap. It took me 3 times to get it right, I think I was pushing the wire in too far.

Ya waterproof endcaps. But I am going to stay 2 bulb now since we decided on MH for that tank also. Maybe I should try T5/VHO.
Can 1 660 operate 2 VHO and some T5s?

Yes, but it is recommended to even out the distribution, so pair a VHO with a T5 on each side.
