i would like to ask the entire club for there help.
i had the privilege and honor to drive eric borneman around for the day. i had asked him if there was any thing we could help him with as a club in his research projects.
he asked me if we could help him obtain random samples of sea salts for testing that he is working on. i will send a link to this thread to eric and he will be responding to it in a few days. he needs samples from all over the usa so there not from the same batch. i know we can help him with this project and in return we will gain valuable information from this.
once eric has told us exactly what he is looking for i would like to collect all the sammples together with proper labeling and packaging so i can ship them to him. i will cover the cost of shipping to eric seeing a benifited by so much information i recieved from eric. he has helped me understand my reef so much that i feel its the least i can do to repay him for his efforts.
so once eric has posted his needs and instructions lets help his research project by folowing his instructions to the letter. its very important that there followed exactly the way he needs them so the research comes out with positive results.
i would also like to thank everyone in the club for there efforts in having eric here. i feel it was a huge sucess for everyone including eric.
scott

Just from the US? I could try to hook you up with some samples from Hong Kong and China.

Boy, I bet he (Eric) would never have expected that he would have been able to get salt from China.

please lets keep this thread to erics study of sea salts so it dont get off track and miss guided. i will talk about that in a different thread. if you dont mind smeese im going to ask one of the officers to delete that post and this one to keep the thread on subject and short for eric. that way he will come and visit the thread and post to it as new information is available.

Spazz, relax. I'm sure Eric's never read a thread with a few off topic posts...
SO to keep it on topic, I have a few different buckets of various ages that I could donate. Heck, we could send the monti I'll have in some 151 to him at the same time.

sorry D didnt mean to spazz out. but you know me. lol
if i remember right he wants new un opened containers of salt. and only enough to make 10g of saltwater. the reason for new un opened containers is to prevent contamination of the samples. i have 1 new bag i got from fish and friends. but it would be nice to get some from different stores so he is not getting smaples from the same store same batch. he will lay out everything when he posts here. i just wanted to get the thread started and will let eric take it from here.

Who buys packets of salt that only mix up 10 gallons? That little caveat might reduce the sample group a great deal.

no no. he wants buckets of salt that are un opened. then he will need a sample from that bucket of salt that is enough to make 10g of saltwater.
when eric can find the time to post here he will explain everythig further.

I am having Kim Lowe from our club instruct which salts we lack because this is a blind study and I might notice which and how many salts are needed, and see which ones lack that many on our shelves (I only know them by tanks A-K). You can read about the study at www.marshreef.com and Kim will be posting the instructions and needs shortly. Thanks to all you guys for having me - it was great meeting all of you and spending time with you. Thanks also for letting me into your homes to see your tanks and a big thanks to Scott, Mike and Bill for their efforts during the weekend. I look forward to seeing all of you again soon and hopefully at MACNA and/or the post MACNA diving field trip.

I want to thank you for coming. It was great to talk a little music (I noticed your sig on the Marine Depot board .) and Central America. Gotta love the cell phone ring. I know myself and some others are going to Chicago in a couple weeks. I'm sure I'll have a ton of pics from Costa Rica along. We'll have to compare "Central American projects" in about six months or so. Best of luck on your projects and you and your wife always have a place to stay when Greenday comes to MN. The dive trip at MACNA sounds enticing.
