Sweet, did you decide what your going to do with it yet?
To clean: water vinegar, and a whole lot of elbow grease! You can use an old drivers license to scrape the acrylic, or buy a kent scraper. Also they make a special pad for scrubing acrylic, I picked one up at a pet store about six months ago, and have been using the same one since, it works great, no scratches.

I was thinking about doing either an
1) LPS, SPS frag tank
2) LPS, SPS mixed reef. With SPS on the top portion and LPS along the bottom. If so I can get a 250W MH pendant for super cheap
3) FO tank, but I already have one of those and they just seem kind of boring to me since I set up my reef.

I would stay away from using vinegar if at all possible... It is acid so it can eat at the acrylic and cause it to haze... I would fill it up with water and then use a scratch piece of acrylic and scrape it with that.

I just got everything cleaned out and it all looks like new. I couldn't get all the way down to the bottow of the overflow since the tank is about 3' tall, but oh well I just filled part of it up with the garden hose and used a wash cloth to clean it all off. Fortunately there was little to no coralline on the tank, just some of the fun green hair algae that basically just wiped right off. Here are some pics of the entire setup...enjoy

Is there any way that I can remove the paint from the sides without damaging the acrylic? The sides were painted because if was recessed into a wall and you would have seen the framing around it, but I would REALLY like to be able to see through the sides. If not I was just going to sand down the old paint and repaint them blue. Any tips for sanding?
And regarding the bio balls, is there a good way to clean them or am I just better of getting new ones. I've never had a bio-tower before and I am still not sure if I will really need it.

Can't beat the price! If you cut it in half, have spazz or someone slap a bottom on one and a top on the other and you have 2 tanks

is it latex paint? If so you can use your fingernails to start a corner and heat it up with a hairdrier to gradually peal it away. Other wise if it is an enamel you are pretty much screwed.

I'm not sure what kind of paint is is, but when I was cleaning the tank there was some electrical tape on the side, for some odd reason, and when I peeled the tape off part of the paint came off with it. Also when I was cleaing the top there was some paint that got onto the top and I could scrape it off with my fingernail. Would this lead you to believe that is is a latex based paint?
Does the enamel based paint basically soak into the acrylic and that is why I wouldn't be able to remove it?
