I need a smallertank...
Does any one have a smaller tank/ like a 20 long or a 30 that they want to sell cheap or otherwise loan for a while? I have the extra sand from clyde that I could use but not until I get the 40 gal I am buying from David set up. I am not sure how long it will take before it is ready but it may be a couple months. In the meantime I have a HOB powerfilter and a Prizm skimmer that will be sufficient for a smaller tank. I also have a 96w powerquad light and a couple different NO light strips I could use to give the sand and rock enough flow and mechanical filtration. There will be no fish or coral in this tank. The 40 will have both when it is totally ready. If anyone has anything lying around let me know. It doesn't have to look pretty, it just has to hold water. I even thought about getting a rubbermaid container to do this but not sure how well it will work so I thought I would try you folks first.

I have a 42 hex or a 20g that you can use for the time being. The 42 has a stand to boot. It hasn't had water in it for a while, but you are more than welcome to come and pick it up. I'll pm you details where you can get it if I'm not home.

A question I may impose as well is... HOw deep is too deep for a sandbed in a 30. I finished 1 of 2 buckets off in my 30 and my ten... the 30 has a bed that ranges between 3 and 4" in different spots. The 10 is about 2 to 3". They will only stay tha way until the 40 is ready. Again that will be a couple of months. Will that deep of a be okay until I get the 40 ready? I will still have the other bucket that I will fill up one of Dereks tanks with plus all the rock and sand that is in the 10. That will make the bed in that pretty deep too.

Trodder, here's a 2 in one for ya...I got some shrooms ready for picking for you, and I have a 29 gallon you can have. I got it from David G. a couple months ago or so, and wasn't able to get it to work. It should work for you, with a little cleaning. BTW, I've got a few purple shrooms and I think I might be able to get maybe one or two green ones for you....I'll e-mail you my address and phone number. Mike

Mike, if your not going to end up using the 29g, I wouldn't mind having it back.
Trodder, I have lots of tanks that would work. Your welcome to borrow when you pick up the 40g.

The 42 hex is prolly 24" in diameter (just a guess without running out to measure). Looks like you have other good options, you know where to get it if you want to borrow it.
I also put one bag of SD (50#) in a 29g and it's about 3-4" deep.

Okay... here is the plan... Mike I can swing by Friday sometime and get the coral and the 29. I then will pick up the 42 from Derek to setup the sand in for now. Then saturday I can bring the 29 to David when I pick up the 40. (in case anyone is wondering why I am not using the 40 for this right away is because it is going to have a couple of holes in it. If David has a better solution than the 42 I will just swap it out. Then I will return the 42 to Derek if he wants. Let me know what you guys think... Mike- what time would you be available for me to come by? Derek, am I able to get the 42 from you any time then? David, I am still working on a solid ETA for me to meet you at your place. Everyone please e-mail me address and phone# if you don't mind, so I can call you guys to cordinate this as we go.
trodder@comcast.net. If you can't e-mail for some reason the a PM will be fine.

trodder, you can pick up the tank and stand anytime, and just return it when you don't need it anymore. I pm'd my number to you last night.

I have a 37g, 30gL, 45gL available to use.
I would like the 29g back as I would like to use it for my Kalk top off. 29g being narrow will fit into a space I have nicely and take up less space than my current bucket. All my other spare tanks aren't as narrow......

Trodder,
I believe TCMAS will have to revoke your membership if you start a downsizing trend. It is buried in our bylaws somewhere.

trodder, why don't you keep it simple and decrease the amount of trips you have to make and head to Dave's house after Mike's place...if you really want to use it, you are still more than welcome to use it.
Greg, I think that this is a TEMPORARY tank only.

Derek- I already snatched up the 42 & stand. I did not have any computer access today until I got home. It actually is working real nice because I don't have to modify my little light rig. If I get a chance I will take a picture for you guys to see what I mean. I emptied all the sand into the 42 then added some water, then all the LR & LS from my 10 (start of a nano.) My light fixture was just big enough to fit over the 10. The 42 is almost the same size opening at the top. This way the whole tank gets equal lighting. Do you guys think that 96w of 50/50 pc is enough to hold the LR & LS over for a couple months???
