...does anyone have one laying around ? Either 1" or 1 1/4", or does anyone know who carries them here in town?

Nope, I have been at both places and they don't have anything useable.
They have big flapper type check valves there for sump pumps etc. Not for PVC piping though.

I might not even need one.... contemplating another option.

What's the other option you're thinking?

drilling holes in all my returns, just below the waterline.

It's probably a better way as there is one less item in the return line that would restrict water flow.

One less headache to plumb too

yeah but redundancy is good...i don't know if i would trust an antisiphon hole alone, a snail turd, some algae or salt creep and you're SOL!

darn, I just got back from Jerry's .....

I'll do the anti siphon hole for now but if your check valve doesn't reduce teh pipe ID too much I might add that too.

Are you going to be at the meeting ? What are you sking for it ?

If you do multiple smallerish hole it shouldn't be an issue. I've tested this lots of times on 3 different tanks. A single hole...yeah I'd be real scared of that. My snails love to go anywhere they think might annoy me.

I should have stayed with the check valve. Always has worked with my 3/4 " return setup.

Now with the bigger pump and 4 holes just below the water level I can win a water squirting contest

If the hole is too close to the water level squirting all over, if it's too far down the sump overflows...

My return plumbing is pretty much all glued together... I have to replace a bunch of elbows now ...

I'm hosed....

I NEVER advocate the use of check valves. Murphy's law will always win. The one time you need them to work will be the one time they decide to stick in the "open" position...even a small piece of sand, calcium deposit, etc will cause them to fail...
