I am the idiot
Well made my stand for my 90gal a few weeks back and now put the tank on and didn't take the proper measurements of the tank. Thinking I needed a 48" x 18" stand, I forgot about the 1/4" trim that goes around the tank. So now I have a 1/4" overhang with my tank on the stand. I do have the 1/4" oak veener I have to put on yet which will make it flush.
So my question is should I remake my stand to 48 1/2" x 18 1/2" or can I keep the current stand 48"x18" and be okay???
Like I said I am the idiot
be gentle for my stupidty

Put the oak veneer on, and make sure you've glued it well. Either that, or glue some 1/4" edging around the outside, and then put the veneer over that.
Then go put on your cap.

I did the same thing on the 125, but mine is a steel frame so it all worked out when I made my wood panels. So I guess we are idiots together!

If it makes you feel better, and by the way I'm not taking the 'TCMAS village idot award' off your hands, but I just finished putting together my DIY stand and hood for my new 75 gallon tank.
FOr some reason the corner of the hood was sticking to the tank when I went to remove it. I though maybe some glue had seeped through, but no hat wasn't it. Well I had used a brad nailer to attach the trim pieces in the corner to hide the edge of the plywood. Yeap went throw the wood nicely and into the top trim piece for the tank. From both sides of the corner no less. I got lucky and missed the glass just happend to hit the edge of the plastic.
Lessons learned;
1. Remove wood from hood before dooing any nailing.
2. There is always someone else out there who has made a stupid mistake that makes you feel better (okay less bad) about yours.
We could probably start a thread that would go on for ever about the stupid things we have done to our tanks.

I made the same mistakes on my DIY 90 stand. I had a steel tube frame welded up and even went so far as to powder coat it. Then put the tank with the overflows on the stand and low and behold I didn't measure accurately enough. The overflows were in the way. So I had to hog out some material on the frame to make the tank fit. That was painful to say the least. I also forgot about the tank trim on the the panels for the exterior too. I had to plane off some of the wood around the frame to make that fit.

Can you add a 1/2 inch to the back and one side and still trim it out?

that would work too, but thinking of just going 1/2 oak veneer instead of 1/4" trim. Going to go and look at my options.
