Hypo Question, loss in the Q tank

After a long and courageous battle with Ich, our beloved Chevron did not make it. He was a wonderful fish and also our first Tang. He was cool and will be missed.

So, now what? we still have three fish in QT and they look great...they were never really all that infected...the Chevron had it the worst....So...Do we keep them at this low salinity (1.009) for a couple more weeks to ensure that the Ich is gone? Do we raise the salinity back and keep them in QT for a month to make sure it is gone? we are about 1.5 weeks in. UV is lined up, in the next 7 days or so i hope to have it plumed and on the tank. Waiting for a bulb to come in that was ordered.

Feeling defeated and not sure what to do now, and lots of second guessing about what we did do.
We are leaving Friday morning and will be back Monday afternoon, so if salinity changes are recommended please keep this in mind.

Thanks...

Joel and Kim

Since they are in a Q tank, why not use medication?
1.009 is way too low for long term treatment IMO.

I can't stress this enough. Use copper . (in QT only) They are finding that certain protozoan are immune to the hypo treatment. This is from experience been down this road before. Use cupramine.

My hesitation in using the copper treatment is that we have read many articles about this and my wife does not want to chance that it would make her clowns not be able to reproduce, furthermore, these three are not showing signs of ich, so why treat them with copper if the Chevron was the worst with it...

I am just a big advocate of using something that has been proven over and over again as an effective way to treat. I understand your reasoning for allowing them to reproduce. But more than likelly if they are in a reef tank the larvae will never survive anyways....

focus now is on making your showtank Ich free!
clowns and Ich dont mix much so i dont think that will be a big deal,,,what is the other fish?
keep them out for the time you need to kill the ich in the tank.
i also like copper.
