How salty is your tank?
I have recently read some conflicting information about the appropriate salinity and specific gravity for reef tanks. Some say 1.020-1.023 is the ideal range. Some say that the SG should be 1.025-1.026. I know the temp changes the SG reading too, so what are the temps and SG's of your tanks; what do you recommend?

i think 1.020-1.023 is for ideal for fish only and 1.027-1.026 is good for reefs

I shoot for 1.025 using a refractometer mainly because the line for 1.025 is longer and easier to see than going with 1.026 because it's hard for me to tell looking through the eye scope. Refractometers do not need are not sensitive to temp like a hydrometer is so is irrelevent.

1.025 @ 79 to 89 degrees is what I run and is roughly the norm for a reef.

ditto, only my temp is a little more steady than 79-89...
(He meant 79-80, which is where mine is at as well)

yep...for sure a typo...his tanks are way to beautiful to have 10 degree swings happening.
BTW...this is where we keep ours too. Our nano does have some swing happening tho so It is 79-81....But I am trying to see if I can minimize this.

1.025-1.026 77.5-78
1.25 is an average sea level of salinity. The fish can tolerate lower levels, but some parasites can't so a FO tank is often lower. Corals need NSW levels. It is a small difference for best practices between reef and SWFO tanks.
