How fast do maxima clams grow?

Small ones are really cheap on reefscience and I was just wondering how fast they grow? I know that you have too feed clams 3" and under, and I was told to not bother with small ones, but they have them 5 for roughly $20 each (5 for $99). Just curious.

Most people cannot provide the amount of nutrients needed for small ones to keep from starving.. This is best left to experienced clam people who are able to keep a culture of live plankton going.

Your money would be more wisely spent on 1 larger clam.

Very true on the larger clam, they have many other good deals like that 10 inch clam like Dirks for 80.00

I second that. I have tried 2 smaller clams, different types and I could not keep both alive with 2x250 and plenty of water movement. But I have 2 big ones that are looking great and growing. I really like the smaller ones, I think they look so cool but I wont get another one.

If you were going to do a bunch of smaller clams I would think about setting up a shallow clam tank temporarily so it would be easier to feed them. Too bad I just sold 3 clams at my open house a couple of weekends ago.

i had was able to keep a small maxima by feeding dt's about every other day. what i did was cut the bottom of a pop / gatorade bottle and used that to target feed. i would place it over the clam, take the cap off, put enough dt's in there to tint the water green put the cap back on and wait for the water to clear up. only took about 15 minutes. he is still kicking in verticals tank now until i get set up sometime.
