Question

High TDS reading with a new RO/DI system????

I ran 20 gallons through the system before I started using the water. When I fill up my 5 gallon containers the reading comes out to anywhere between 60 and 4 TDS. I don't understand why a brand new 5 stage RO/DI system is reading such a high tds. Is it possible that my containers are dirty enough to produe the high TDS reading? The high TDS reading only shows when I test the water inside of the 5 gallon containers. When I run a small sample of the cleaned water i get a TDS of between 4 and 0. What do you all think?

This is pretty typical, usually the first 20 gallons or so is high tds. After that it should be great. I'm not sure about the two varying samples though. But 20tds is much better than your probably 200 tds out of tap.

It sounds like your container may be leeching. The best water container is a gray Rubbermaid Brute garbage can as it is food grade plastic. For 5 gallon container I recommend the 5 gallon clear blue water cooler jugs. Keep your water containers covered as water open to air will pick up a tds reading.
