help me i'm new in saltwater


this is going to sound really dumb but i need help what salt do you recomend for a first timer i dont want to spent a ton of money on bad stuff and loose fish so if someone could help it would be really helpful and any other suggestion on how to start my 55gallon tank thanks

Welcome to TRT,I use Instant Ocean,tell us more of what you plan to keep and filtration etc.

welcome, I use reef crystals but Instant ocean is good stuff also.

1st...dont add fish for some time yet.
most salt is OK.....ocean devotions has some good salt on sale now.
Harmar pets sells at a good price......unless your paying $20 over get it local and dont spend the $$$ on gas.
do you have live rock, sand???
sump and skimmer, or filter???

no the tank is not drilled and i don't know what kind of filter i will need but if you guys could give me some advice and what i should be paying for some of this stuff

get a good skimmer, quite possibly the most important piece of equipment you will own.

#1- 55gal tank will limit you.
but if that what you got, you can do a nice FOWLR.
get a good filter, and start reading on TRT or RC.

Hey....I should do that too!

A lot of people use Instant Ocean and probably Reef Crystals next. Besides the tank why don't you provide a list of other items you do have, including type of rock, sand, testing and other equipment, lighting - you get the drill. Next what are your leanings, reef only, fish only, reef with fish. Maybe even were you want to be cost wise. Others will be able to direct you to equipment and books that will help in this hobby.
