Casey, you must be a young pup (just kidding) MJ 1000's are older models, I believe.

By the way, unless you're having temp. issues it shouldn't matter.

the heat would be about the same I would think if the old ones run like the new ones.Do you know how many watts the 1000s take to run?I cant find any info on them to old I guess I know the 1200s take 20 watts.

Ok I found a little info 280 gph thats a little less than the 1200s at 20 watts each so I would say the wattage is probably about the same the Mag 5 takes 45 watts so it will be real close you can chose either I would say.I would probably go with the MJS and get a little more random flow.HTHs

Just FYI: I use an empty 200g IO salt bucket for my water changes ( which is about 6 gallons of water ). I use a MJ1200 in there for 24hours to aid in mixing but it also heats the water to 79-80 degrees ( originally 65 degrees ) WITH THE LID ON thus no need for a heater.

So perhaps that may give a little idea as to the heat of the MJs. It works in my favor for what I use it for......but in a 125g tank with open tops it probably be minimal.

For the Mag5 it will depend on how it's configured. Submersed will always add a bit more heat than external. I don't like Mag pumps therfore don't use them so I can't say how much +/- but will make some difference.
