Have you ever heard.......

one of my friends (just met this past weekend) she has two saltwater tanks and one of them she had added some amonia (from a jug of amonia) to her fish tank to get it to cycle. she said it took 21 days for it to do a complete cycle. I have never heard that before, have any of you? is it ok to do?

oh yea, she has a bottom filter using gravel, and no live rock in her tank. just a pretty castle in there with some plastic plants.....

oh, one other thing....... I have a piranha in a 40gal fw tank....... would you think I could use water from that tank to top off the salt water tank?

it's called fishless cycling and is very popular in FW and FO tanks

I wouldnt use water from a different FW tank to top off.

To the best of my knowledge there would be no benefit of adding that water as top off especially if you thinking that would help your tank cycle or something.

Best to use, clean filtered RO/DI.......so you know what's going in.....

ok, thanks. I didn't think it would be a good idea, but sense you all seem to know everything, I just thought I'd ask.
