So am I dumb to even think about adding one of these to my tank? THey have one at Har Mar for $90 or something.

Also saw a Sargassum fish there for like $30, but I like my hands...

From what I understand they would have quite a feast in your tank. It's too bad too because they are such a beautiful fish.

How so? Would it eat all my crustaceans? One of my friends has one in his reef tank.

Why are you afraid that a sargassum fish will hurt your hands? Your fears are correct about the harlequin tusk, they will chomp on your inverts. We have one at the Rainforest cafe, what a beautiful fish!

As fierce as they look the Harlequin Tusk is an extremely passive fish. I have never heard of them being kept in a reef but I wouldnt doubt they could. There natural defense is there bright colors and ferocious looking teeth..however I knew a few people who had them ,and all they did was complain about how big of pansies they were!!! Go figure???

Tusks can be kept in a reef, I think as long as you don't add any inverts after it is introduced you should be fine. A couple reefs on the Tank of the Month on RC have tusks in them.

Derek,

I had a tusk in my reef for a couple of months before he became the next target for my man-eating carpet. The tusk bothered nothing. I would go with a smaller one if you can find it. Good luck.

That's good to know, Adam. I'll still have to do a little searching, don't want my cleaner shrimp to end up being the main course for dinner. Also don't want to add one if it's a "high-maintenance" fish that needs to be fed daily a bunch of different types of live foods.

I mainly fed mine frozen Krill and some of the marine supreme frozen. Never did give him any live food. I took on a new role at work and am traveling way too much! I will get back into the swing of things come fall.

Tank is doing great, but i have added nothing since the last time you saw me. Been too busy at work. Nothing like work to get in the way of a good hobby!

I may have to host a meeting one of these days.

I look forward to seeing you soon Derek!

I have kept Harlequin Tusks for a long time and they are one of my favorite fish. They are quite passive like Harv stated, but they will go after other wrasses on ocassion.

The Tusk will feed opportunistically on inverts, especially shimp and herit crabs.

Like other wrasses the Harlequin is fast fish that has been know to jump, so protection will need to be put in place for that.
If you decide to get one, make sure that they come from Australia, as the ones from other areas (like the Philipines) tend to be sianide (spelling) caught and have less vibrant color and potential health problems associated with that horrible catching method.
