Harlequin Shrimp

I am thinking of adding one of these to my large display tank, as I have hundreds of small starfish that reproduce at an alarming rate. Where is the best place to get them? Does Jerry have any??? I want one, but not going to pay shipping on just a shrimp

Are you sure that a harlequin shrimp will eat the little "starfish"? I don't think that they are actually starfish, but only resemble them. Just posing a question. I will try to do some research and find out, seems to be a very interesting question that you pose.

Jerry can get them, I got my last one from him. I should add that they do eat those odd shaped little starfish. The one I have is doing a great job in my tank.

Good to know that they eat the little critters, Loralie are your little "starfish" eating corals? If not, what are they eating to make their population explode?

Superman-The only coral I that they destoryed was my pipeorgan. They would camp out right over the top of the tube and eventually wiped out a real nice colony I had. I'm still not sure will cause the population explosion, but all of a sudden they where everywhere.
Only down side to the Harlequin is that they only eat the starfish, so after they are gone the Harlequin often dies.

If you want to see them and enjoy them, you need to set-up a NANO tank.

PS: thanx..plants are doing great!....also my big hippo may need a new home, its not happy with all the rock i took out.

What are they then?

I'd like to get some of these, but the only problem is that I have a sand-sifting star and a brittle star, and I doubt a harlequin would selectively go after the little ones.

I was reading somewhere that if you sort of train them to eat the smaller star fish by putting them in your sump with a bunch of them. After a while they will get a taste for them. I think this was more to get them to eat that kind, in Dereks case I don't think that would cause them to not eat the other ones though.

The only other thing I know is that they are supposed to be in pairs. (I have never had them so I really don't know, just passing on info I had read when I was thinking about them)

Oh yeah, and Jerry can get them.
