Do any of you have more than one firefish in your tank? Do they do alright together?

We have had a group in the past but it tends to be luck in how many males you get. We have had some be killed by the others and we had 2 "couples" but sadly one died and then the 3 would hang together but eventually one decided to go carpet surfing The purple firefish is the most aggressive of the firefish and in the Marine Fishes book it states to only keep singly or male-female pair. The dartfish that is great for grouping is the Zebra Dart Goby(Ptereleotris zebra) which is the most peaceful and is recommended to be kept in pairs or groups. They need peaceful tankmates like the purplefirefish does and fine sand to burrow in. They are jumpers just like the firefish so keep a top on your tank especially if it is a high traffic area. Not the greatest picture but they do call them dartfish for a reason

I had 4 purple firefish in my 200, but lost one a month back or so. they immediately paired up and stayed on opposite ends of my tank. Now 2 still stick together about 2/3 of the time and the other 1/3 of the time all 3 hang out.

I bought a purple and a red firefish on the weekend and they are both doing great in my 60gal community and i want to add another red. Ypus hould be fine, they are a scholling fish that does better in numbers although the purple males will sometimes fight.

In what I read and what I experienced in my tanks is that if you want to have a pair or more to be happy together you need to buy them from a pet store where they are already happy together. I have seen at least three instances personally where someone bought firefish seperately and ended up having one or to hiding in the rocks while the other(s) would stay out in the open. Making sure they are happy together before you buy them and put them in your tank is what I would personally recommend.
