electrical question

I tripped my GFI today but it would not click back on. Usually it will click on and then click off if I try to plug in something with electrical leakage. This time it would not even reset. Plus another outlet down the line would not turn on either. Changed the breaker insert but still nothing. Any ideas?

The new GFI will not reset if you have something that is shorting, suppose to be a new safety feature so you do not reset something that is shorted out. Your GFI could also be bad, I have had one GFI outlet that went bad on me and ended up replacing it.

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure it is not the GFI. I replaced it with a regular outlet to see if it would work, but no juice there either.

GFI

Is the GFI the first thing on the circuit from the breaker? Turn off the breaker and see what goes dead. Its possible that the breaker feeds several outlets prior to reaching your GFI. If thats the case could be a loose connection at one of those locations.

Fixed the problem after couple hours of hair pulling. It was exactly like you said Achilles Tang - lose connection upstream. Not sure why it would get lose there and at that time. But who knows how the universe works sometimes,
The juice is flowing again!
