DIY heat sheild

Until today I never realized how hot PC lighting gets. I think I am going to have to add a fan and heat shield so it doesn't smell like burning paint. What have some of you done for this situation?

My main question is what kind of metal should I use for the heat sheild. Aluminum, tin, or stainless. I have regular sheetmetal tin that I could use, but I don't know if that will hold up to the moisture.

DIY Heat shield

I have some experience with different types of metals in corrosive environments. The tin would not last very long unless it had a very good coating on on it. Be it paint or chrome plating (Best for reflection). Same for aluminum, although it won't corrode quite as fast. With aluminum, the worst place would be around the screws you use to fasten it to the wood. Stainless steel is by far the best option for long term use. Of course it will cost more. You should be able to call up a sheet metal shop in the area and get some prices. They would most likely cut it to size for you also. It comes in various finishes also. You can get it highly polished on one side for good light reflection. Again, the higher the finish, the higher the price. It has been several years since I did any welding for a living, so I don't know prices anymore. Hope this helps.

How can I argue with your logic. I am going with stainless, a local company is cutting me a piece for $5. Done and Done.

Cool beans man! can't beat that!! I would use sst screws for fastening also.
You could also put some thick washers between the sheet metal and the wood to create an air space for better cooling. Good luck! Let me know how it turns out.
