Yes they are, also IMO emperor make the best UV unit, I can also get Aqua Ultraviolet, but I prefer Emperor Aquatics.

Would you say the ratios / tank size posted on the site are good for salt water volumes as well; Or in other words, does the rating for FW volume = ratings for SW volume?

ok NM it comes down to the flow not how many gallons you have.
It seems it would be best to get the 40w... regular (not lite).

With that I can be pretty sure the return pump will not go too fast for the UV. I think you have it at 900gph "optimum".

No the rating for aquariums would be less, I'll see if I can find it and post it.

Here ya go: http://www.emperoraquatics.com/aquasmartuv.php
Go to the bottom right corner, ignore the maximum aqaurium size and look at the ghp through the unit.

I think it is cause it is 2 bulbs instead of one, also the NO has 2" unions on it and the HO has 1.5" unions.

Wooow, you have an amazing setup there. With the cold winters that we often get, I didn't think tanks that size was possible. What's the normal temp. in those tanks in winter?

In the winter we try to keep them at 60 or even better yet would be 65. Otherwise if you let the temperature drop down to 50 then the koi's immune system will shut down.
