Color Comparison

The last time Tracy and Sheryl came up they brought along three frags of a coral they got from Bill(Northstar Corals).

I placed them under 10k Ushio 250 watt DE hqi., 250 watt megachrome hqi and 400 radium on an hqi ballast. To be fair I must note that the Ushio bulb is near replacement time so it may have some effect on color.

Bill if you could give me a history on this coral I would appreciate it. It seems to be growing fast.

Here it is under 10k Ushio.

And under 20k radiums. All three of these frags are directly under the bulb listed. The 400 radium frag is closest to the surface. All pictures are top down.

Sorry for the picture quality, I will be geting a new lense for my camera. I just want to get better macro shots. But as you can see there is a difference in color under each light. No actinics are used in these pictures. I think it has been about three or four weeks they have been in my system. I actually prefer the look under the megachromes myself. Radiums always seem to make the colors look fake.

I like the Radium pic the best.

On HQI the colors don't look fake IMO, but on an electric ballast, well thats another story...

Maybe a little too early to tell but how does the growth compare between the bulbs? Especially interested in the 10 vs 13K

All three are growing at about the same pace. Encrusted the base in a few weeks. All are about ten inches below the water and about 20 inches from the bulb maybe more.
