Classified Section in Member's Only?
What do people think about a classified section in member's only for dry goods only? I would sticky the thread and delete and edit posts as needed. You can edit your own in the first 24 hours. I know people don't like stickies but that's tough. The thread would get restuck every month to get rid of deleted posts and keep it updated. That means you would have to repost every month whether you posted on the first or last day. That should keep the thread short enough. The thread would be for listings only. Please no posts about pm sent or stuff like that. Just pm the person and be done with it. Ask all questions through pm or email. PM or email me when the item is no longer available and I'll either edit it or delete it. How's that sound? Also, I want to keep it in the member's only. I don't mind doing a little extra work as long as it is for club members..

Not a bad idea tico, it would be nice not to have to search for things you want to buy. A common place would be helpful.

Nothing. What's wrong with having something better?
I just notice things that get posted and no one says anything, A few days later someone posts about wanting to buy the same thing. There is not a lot of posting in the Member's section so if people have one or two things to sell they can have it out there in a common place to be seen. I think it's worth a try. Especially things like ballasts and tanks that may take awhile to sell. Not everyone reads the forum every day and it would be a spot for higher priced, nicer items to be listed before it zips to page three out of sight in one days time.

How about a subforum for classifieds in general? Kind of like the members only section?

That would be ideal. I want to try this first to see if it's worth approaching the powers that be about it. I guess I was thinking this would be nice for someone that say, bought a skimmer and it wasn't big enough. Now they need to sell it and buy a bigger one. They may need a bit more than the give away discount a lot of stuff sells for. Ideally it would be a spot for newer stuff, but anything reef related could be listed. Obviously if you want to list it in the open forum first as a thread you could. If you didn't get any takers, you could list it in member's only and it would be there for others that need an item and want to see if there is something nice available at a less than new price without searching all over for it.

I like the idea. It wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.

I think it is a good idea too...lately the forum has been flooded with stuff for sale....which is good don't get me wrong....just kinda makes clutter on the forum. There has been a huge increase of new people on the forum lately along with others that have come back after being gone a while which is great!

Heck, just make a post in the MO section. It'll take 3 months before it's off the first page anyway.

I think its worth a shot and if you stuff sells you could go back and edit it blank so it takes up less space.

I don't see a reason to do it that way. If there needs to be a sticky, have it spell out some guidelines about selling items. Maybe have the seller post the FS ad. People send PMs and PMs ONLY. None of this "dibs on this or that or lat". Let the seller update the thread with what has beed sold, what's still available, ect, and bump it if needed. I think that would be better than having a FS thread go multiple pages and have the latest item FS be 4 pages back, so to speak.

If you read my ideas you'd see that wouldn't happen.
First, you don't have to sell your stuff there. You also wouldn't have to buy from there. People can sell there items how they want on their own threads, I'm not going to tell people how to run their threads for sale. This would be a Classified section, no "pm sent", no "does it have this" or anything like that. Second, going along with what Derek said, things don't get posted that often, but you'd always know where this was and everything would get wiped out and start over every month so you won't have page after page. Items get deleted as I'm notified. If you don't notify me; you can deal with the pm's asking if it's still available. It would be up to the seller to relist at the beginning of each month.

i like ti because it gets all the classifides in one area so its easer to seach for stuff when that extra $100( never happens but i wish it was) is burning a hole in my pocket.

I would be really disappointed if the classifieds were under members only. I live in Northern Minnesota, so I have never made it to a meeting, and I don't think I ever will. But, I frequent this board on almost a daily basis and I have purchased items from this board. If I didn't have access to the members only section, I wouldn't have access to the classifieds, and I guess I wouldn't be coming here so much anymore
It just seems like that is too limiting. I am sure when someone posts an aquarium set-up for sale, they would like as many "local" eyes to see it as possible, not just the twin cities members. There are people that would drive for several hours to get a for-sale item, but those people wouldn't see the item if it was in a members-only area.
