Bicolor Blenny vs Xmas Favia?

Hi folks,
A few weeks ago I picked up a "Christmas" Favia from Graham that looked true to it's name. Shortly thereafter I moved up to Duluth for school. While I was home, I never observed any discoloration of the coral nor did I see the blenny in question nip at it. My brother is the main caretaker of the tank; he is well adept at maintenance and spends a good amount of his time close to the tank, so he is always calling with observations and such.

Today, he called me and mentioned that our bicolor blenny was nipping at the favia and it did not look as well as it normally does. Apparently there are white ridges on some polyps that are normally red, while others are fine.

We have not changed feeding times or amounts and I cannot think of any other reason it would begin nipping the favia. Has anyone had similar experience or can share suggestions on what to do?

I will be giving my brother another call tomorrow to see how everything is going, but by the sound of it I will have to either "cage" the favia or trade it away. Would prefer the former rather than the latter!

Thanks,
Marty

My guess is that it is nipping at the edges. If the favia is slowly starving it will recede at the edges first. As soon as it recedes algae can take a hold. BCB love algae.
Worth looking into.
