Is it safe to use AMMO CHIPS in a marine tank? Has anyone done this before?

Ammo Chips for ponds? If you are talking about the pond kind, they won't work in saltwater, in fact if they are in your pond and then you add salt to your pond, the chips will release all of the ammonia bound up inside of them. You can use them as filter media.

Don't use ammochips. It says directly on the box not intended for saltwater use. Also you shouldn't have ammonia in a saltwater tank.
