Im just thinking if it were me doing it i would buy a 3/4 in bulkhead and drill the container and buy a plastic gate vavle to stop the flow.

Thats what i would do if it were me.

When I was younger but no less a degenerate, I worked part time at the local Menards. People used to, occasionally, ask me where the hot water heaters were. I'd tell them we didn't carry any. When they were done being flustered, and demanding, "WHAT?", I'd ask them why would you want to heat hot water?
What a smartass.

I have one that is drilled about 6" from the bottom on the side with 1/4" tubing for kalk top off.

seamonkey, I ended up getting a 1/2" bulkhead at the LFS, a cpvc boiler drain, a 1/2" threaded male end,and a 1/2" to 3/4" coupler from HD. You also need a 1" piece of 1/2" cpvc tubing to glue the the coupler to the threaded male end. Then I made a hose from a female garden hose end and attached clear 5/8" tubing. The spout on the boiler drain is made to fit a garden hose thread.
Entire sequence: boiler drain, coupler, 1/2" cpvc, threaded male, bulkhead.

You can also simplify the whole mess with a bulkhead and a gate valve, but they seem to turn kind of hard, and I didn't want to torque on the bulkhead too much.
