Acro

Hi,
I just moved to the Twin Cities from Portland, Or and I am looking for places to find some sps corals. I have been to Something's Fishy and Wet World but am wondering if there are other places. Also it would be nice to find someone who has frags for sale.
Thanks

Heya

welcome, have you checked out www.tcmas.org yet ?

a guy here did a list of LFS in metro area, I cannot recall the url at this moment

I bet others will chime in very shortly.

Maybe you can get better references to LFS's around here if you show up at our next meeting on March 9th, just send Harv an email at tcmas_coordinator@yahoo.com

Next meeting is in Eagan, which is very close to saint paul area.

search for edgekrusher and then hit the www button on any of his posts-you'll be magically transported to his webpage and list-o-LFSs. welcome!

Dirk has a wide selection of sps colonies. Fellow reefers from TCMAS often trade frags at meetings.

Welcome to our little corner of the reef world! Did you have lots of decent LFS in Portland?

Always great to have someone new!

Thanks for all the info. I'll defintely make it to the next meeting. I am a novice compared to a lot of people in raising sps coral but once you notice how beautiful they are, I can see how it can grow to an obsession.
Portland had some decent LFS but they're were several private sellers who had really nice fish and coral for a fair price. It was nice to be able to get coral and such from people who really cared and knew what they were doing. But it sounds like there are lots of people here who are just as crazy about their reef tanks. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Welcome to Mpls!

...where you will remember how great your SPS resources were in Portland... It's gotten a lot better over the last couple years - largely in part to folks in the club, but sadly, it's more miss than hit on the LFS circuit SPS-wise. SF had been getting some in more frequently. Just down the road, World of Fish usually has some (not many and they decline fairly quickly, service on weekends is particularly "rememberable"). Other than that, there are a few stores further South, but I don't get that way too often.

Best bet is to wait for mail-order season IMO .

Thanks for the welcome.

Which stores are further south? I've driven to Medford several times to pick up some livestock so I don't mind driving if its worth it. You're right about the SPS at the local stores. Haven't seen much quantity wise. And some that I have seen seems to have more algae than coral growing on it.
When is mail-order season begin here? That's something I haven't even thought of until now. Another benifit of the artic winds I guess.

welcome

Welcome to Minnesota! You will find alot of people trade frags at the meetings, we have had a great time since joining in November. Everyone is so nice and helpful corny I know but sooo true. You will have to let us all know when you are going to go back to Portland so we can load you up on orders to bring back JK sort of, there are quite a few really good online stores located in Portland. Did you ever see Steve Weists tank? The 850 gallon one I think he was in Portland or close by. Anyway I must drag myself away from this computer but I just wanted to welcome you to our group and hope you make it to the meeting. There are a few of us over on the east side of town by you just so you know you are not alone way over here. You will see a lot of the meetings on the other side of town. We hope to balance this out with more members joining that live over here. My husband and I are probably going to host a meeting soon(I hope) and we live in Oakdale. Good night all!

Depends...sometimes you can catch a good week in March if you keep an eye on the weather, but I would say mid-to-late April is better - it still gets pretty cold at night even into May. I have done April in the past and it's turned out OK. I'm sure there are others around here who MO more than I do, though...
