400watt Ballasts?

Now that I got my pumps figured out Derek had to convince me to switch to 400watt instead of 3 X 250w. I am looking at all ballasts right know and want some feed back on what you are using, such as how do you like them? Problems firing certain bulbs? Reliability? etc. etc. I have been eyeing the blueline e-ballast, but don't no much about the 400w ballast compared to the 250w ballast. I will be running 20k XM's with these ballasts.

I use the icecaps that are suppost to mess with x-10 but I run the Heavy duty box for the aquacontroller and have never had a problem. I think a e-ballasts interfere with normal x-10 outlets.

Its not popular with everyone, but you could go the DIY route. I think the ballast thru www.hellolights.com Raw ballast I think is $86.00. I also noticed this new item from them. http://www.hellolights.com/arocubicus400.html

I run a Sunlight supply BluewaveII pulsestart and for the 20k XMs I think they burn them the best IMO. Also they have a 5 year warranty.

Heres a link
http://oceanencounter.com/Merchant2/...tegory_Code=SL

If you want to take a drive and come take a look you are more than welcome.

As I stated in the other thread I think the 20k XMs look alot dimmer and even more blue on electronic ballasts. This is also JMO.

Casey is that an electronic ballast or a magnetic? How hot do they get and do they over drive the bulb?

Bob, I looked into them but I prefer the all ready plug and play and minimal wiring when I am dealing with this much electricity near water, I am surpirsed I haven't electrocuted myself yet.

Just a stardard magnetic pulse start. Their cases are large and heavy and act as good heat sinks. They do get warm. I have both of mine mounted in the basement. But I use to have one right next to the tank and it wasnt to bad. Also if you buy their cords they are really easy to wire to the DL3 mogul and then as you said just plug and play.
