120 Plans

Alright, so I am progressing towards the end of the planning stage and closing in on actually making something happen. I'm looking for some critiques from you all. So far I have an IC 660 that will run 4 VHO's over a standard acrylic 120. My lighting will consist of the VHO's for starters as I figure out how to keep softies and some LPS with the potential to upgrade to MH in the future. I plan to build the canopy to be able to handle the MH from the get go along with fans. I like how Spazz has the overflow teeth cut into the back panel of the tank with an external overflow running the full length of the tank. That way I can also connect my PS directly to the overflow. The sump I am still working on what to do, but for now I have an old 20L that is in the plan. I might go with a custom acrylic sump or a larger glass tank. I plan to have an external return pump, more than likely a sequence. Based on my thread asking about beckett vs. recirc vs. beckett recirc skimmers, I am still not certain on my direction there. That thread turned a little ugly, so I layed off. But I have seen the local guy's work and am dually impressed. I am leaning towards a closed loop with and oceans motions device and penductors or eductors. Should I plan for a spray bar or flow down in the lower level of the water column? And what would be a good way to achieve this? I will have a shallow sand bed and Kaelini or figi liverock that i will use the "Grigor method" for. The stand will be custom built. I haven't decided on steel frame or wood frame under an oak skin. I will be running an ro/di for makeup and saltwater.

Any advice or otherwise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brandon

Looks like you are off to a great start. The VHO's you will want as close to the water as possible. If you build a hood that will accomodate the MH later that is fine just make sure you mount the vho's as close to the water as possible. I prefer 3-5 inchs off the water. Why not just go with MH right off the bat? Eventually you will want them. Overall it looks like you are planning this out well and taking your time which is the best thing.
