? on curing live rock

if i put 100 lbs of uncured rock in my 210 with a 55 gallon sump w/skimmer will my wife kick me out of the house because of the smell? i would be willing to do weekly water changes of 50 gallons. also is there a need to heat the water to cure the rock. temp would be about 70 degrees. thanks

I would keep the water temp at normal temps if you can, but as long as it is in the water, the smell wont be so bad. make sure you keep your skimmer emptied, as this is where most of your smell will come from.

That should be fine... I filled my 10g up to the top with LR, and did crazy water changes in effort to kill algae. I guess that was too much rock, and my whole house just wreaked of dead algae/dead shrooms.

Only curiosity, but why only 70 degrees?

thats what the tank sits at with just the pumps going. didnt want to waste energy heating it if it was not needed.

a bag of carbon will solve most any smell coming from the water .

when I was curing rock ( 1996 ) , unless change water almost daily it had an odor therfore I would always do in a seperate tub in a utility room of sorts not in the living area and put a lid on it.

If the tank is totally closed like Ryan mentions you can probably sit carbon over the air holes. Carbon filter in the water may help too but I never tried.

maybe ill try bags of carbon in the overflow. so does everyone think i should keep the water warmer than 70 degrees. i plan on letting it sit for a few months with nothing but the rock.

I would recomend keeping the temp at 75 at least to keep the liverock critters happy. I cycled my liverock at running temp and cycle went much faster than I was told it would. Many hitchhickers survived and flourished
