your favorite skimmer

This is my first new post! I just joined ARC and am happy to find so many folks around here willing to share their knowledge and expertise in reefing.

I am about to start setting up a new sump and refugium in my basement which will add 300 gallons to my system (200 gal RR). I have a Turboflotor skimmer supporting the current system which is doing a nice job aside from the Rio pump that keeps dying on me and is about to be replaced.

I want to add another skimmer to help out with the added capacity. I had read that having a different type of skimmer rather than two of the same is better because different types take care of different types of organic waste. That being said, I wanted to find out what everyone thinks is their favorite and why. I have heard that ETS and Euroreef skimmers are great but of course there is a price tag that goes along with it. Price is not a real issue for me as long as it is reliable and efficient.

So what do you think?

Euro Reef, I have seen many in action and they are wonderful. If you want a becket like an ETS look at www.myreefcreations.com, he was the past president of ARC and is a sponsor of ARC as well.

I have used a Lifereef 5' foot tall venturi driven skimmer for years. I just added a MyReef skimmer MR2 to my basement frag and critter setup. I really like the Beckett design and the efficiency of th MyReef....

I've been very successful with the venturi system but it tends to require a lot of maintenance and adjustment settings. Many overflows as well and clogged valves....

I'll reserve total judgement on the Beckett design for another year, but from my initial observations - I'd recommend the MyReef design. good luck

Becketts are great skimmers, but less efficient electrical wise than euroreefs. But they skim and skim and skim. Euroreefs are more efficient than Becketts, but their skimming drops dramatically as the wide neck gets gunked up with skimmate. Therefore, Euros need more frequent cup cleaning.

Both are great skimmers with pluses and minuses.
