Cutting the deficit in half is pretty good.

Please, please, please, before this becomes a political thread, let's drop it here before it's too late! I can see where this is going and am curbing my instinct to add my 2 cents. Just my humble wishes before we discover things we don't want to know about each other! Hurray there is a great new marine sanctuary!!!

Oh no, you're cool, I agree, I just could see where this was going and didn't want our shared passion for reefs to be muddled by what I'm sure are divergent feelings on all things political

Turning this area into a National Monument is terriffic news!
Here's another newsreport on this historic event!
And in this MSN news report, there is a video in which you can see Sylvia Earle standing beside President Bush and receiving an embrace from him just after he signed the document making the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands a National Monument. How neat!

Wikipedia listing with a nice map: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwe...ional_Monument
I'm particularly pleased he used the 1906 National Antiquities Act which I didn't know existed until yesterday. No haggling in congress by big business. It's done.
