which lighting spectrum do you like?
well, what kind of a lighting person are you? I use to like the 50/50 look till I got my 70W halide which is a 10K and the more I look at it, the more I really like how crisp the color is. I'll prolly add some antitc light to it, but not much, maybe 2 9W pcs vs. 2 18W flourscent. Ahh the options. So what kind of spectrum do you lean towards?

nice schwaggs! Lets also put what we have as far as ballasts and bulbs go too, that way people can ask questions if there are any out there on certain products. Lets see, on my 10 I have a 70W 10K HQI with soon to have 2 9W coralife antitics. Also have another MH setup which is a 15K 250W XM with a M58 magnetic ballast.

10,000K with actinics.
IMO the 10,000K are just to white for my liking so the actinics off set the white with some blue. For my ballast i have the 440watt PFO VHO ballast.

I have a 70w MH 10K Ushio with a 40w PC Dual Actinic (420nm and 460nm). The ballasts are Aromat electronic for the MH and Workhorse for the PC.
While I like the look of the 10K Ushio alone - my corals have a much nicer color with the dual actinic. This is on my 15g nano so having the single 40w PC allows me to set dawn/dusk cycles.
I also tried a 36w PC actinic 03 and 28W actinic 03. I like the Dual Actinic 40w the best as it seems to balance well with the 70W 10K. The other two lamps I tried appeared to be a bit dull with more of a purplish glow.

My preference: 12-14k (10k for this survey) with actinics (T5).

Like the look or use? I love the look of 20k but the PAR is unacceptable for me (same for 14-15k). So I run 10ks with actinics.

I would have to say 13-15K for what your doing. The reason for this is with the lamp you're using it will look much cleaner to not suppliment, to only use that retrofit lamp.

I'm thinkin of trying to make a coralife type fixture where it has the HQI in the center and then some compacts on the sides, tho I'm not too sure how to go upon makin it, or I should say, where to get the materials.
