Where to buy DT's?

I was wondering if anyone knows a store that sells DTs Phytoplankton, or if there is a good online store to buy from.

Thanks,
Kayla

Both Cap Bay and Marine Fish sell DT's in several convenient sizes!

Just make sure you ask to open the bottle and check it before buying or walking out the door. You'll know if DT's is bad. The smell will bring you to your knees... Otherwise, it just smells like algae.

LOL. I've never found a fish food that smelled too particulary good though!

Which kind do you reccomend that I buy (frozen VS non frozen and such)?

Thanks again,
Kayla

Kayla, Do you have baby clams?
If you don't I suggest you read about DT type products in Calfo's book "Coral Propagation".
And in the seminar when Calfo came to Atlanta he sayed DT type foods are great, for raisng Aglae. LOL

Baby clams can be removed and target feed.

I use DTs to gutload brine shrimp, and in one attempt to raise ghost shrimp, and to feed rotifers when I am raising them. I use a very small amount, probably half of the recommended dosage and mix it in when I am feeding the reef tank. I have gone away from using it a lot. A lot less skimmate and algae that way.

LOL. I don't have any baby clams, but I heard it was good food for corals and other filter feeding inverts. I'm just looking for a good food for everything, but not if it will turn my tank into an algae culturing-farm . What do you feed your corals?

Thanks,
Kayla

I personally have had good luck with DT's for feeding my tank, including clams. I don't dose but maybe twice a week, and everything seems to open up more (although this could be a placebo effect). I was recommended Kent's phytoplankton (the already-dead version) instead once, and that just all ended in my skimmer...

When I opened my bottle of DTs I didn't smell anything. They explain what it's supposed to smell like on the side of the bottle. I'd be wary of anything that smells rotten.

Clean water and good light, nothing else.

Ask around, you'll find that more often then not ( or I did) that most SPS heavy tanks don't feed, the corals get leftovers and snow (fish poop).

That's what I've always done, and my corals always seem happy, so I would like to stick to that method then (saves money and waterchanges, which means time ).

Thanks again.
