Went to CBA today for some Peppermints . . Ended up with Something Else! (pics)
I wanted a couple of Peppermint shrimp, so I dropped by CBA on my way home. Sure enough, I saw a cool tube anemone and when when I saw Pam's tube anemone last week, I had to have one.
Here are couple of pics:

Jon,
I've never seen one that color, different. Did it bury its foot in the sand? Mine opens more at night and I think it has quite a sting so I wouldn't let anything get close enough for it to touch. As I mentioned before, I feed mine a couple times a week and it reaches for food quite aggressively.
Congrats on the purchase.
Pam

Has anyone actually seen one of these take a fish (or anything else)? I have read posts that claim they do, and others that claim that is complete nonsense. I have never heard from someone with first hand knowledge of their rumored destructiveness. I too would like one, but have so far held off because of the uncertainty.
Also, how fast do they grow? I have seen descriptions of them reaching over a foot across. If they grow fast, I figure my tanks would be too small for it before long.

I've had mine for almost 2 years with really no obvious growth. It's probably 12 inches but 3/4 of that is in the sand. I have never witnessed mine eating a fish so I can't say either way. I very very rarely lose a fish for no reason.
IMO, it's just like other things we put in our tanks that could make a meal of something else. You're just taking a chance.
Oh well,
Pam

Sorry, I should have been more clear-I meant 12 inches across the tentacles, up to several feet in the tube. However, if yours has not grown noticeably in 2 years, I figure that's a good sign for me.

I’ve seen the contradictory statements online as well. However, most of the stuff that I’ve read state that there is little risk of these creatures eating fish, shrimp or other invertebrates. Nonetheless, if a slow moving or non attentive animal gets caught in the arms, it will likely try to eat it. As Pam stated about hers, so far I haven’t had any problems with mine.
Btw, it is about 4-5 inches across and 10” long with its tube.

Pam,
Yes, it buried 80% of its body in the sand. Mine is open pretty much all the time and it enjoys a helping of frozen mysis shrimp.
