Weather

I have never experienced a land locked hurricane before. We're having some pretty serious winds down here in midtown. Hope everyone has power and is being safe. Traffic going home tonight is going to blow.

Worst will be the lack of traffic lights and trees down on neighborhood streets. Ivan is "just" a tropical storm now. It will be a good chance to try out those emergency generators too.

The best purchase I can say I have made in this hobby is my Vector 800 watt Dc to Ac converter. Got it yesterday at Pep Boys. If the power goes I have a battery back up pump that will cut on and run for a while. If I have problems I can always crank up the inverter on the civic. I am planning on a battery backup system to run one power head and my main drive pump for at least 20 hours. When finished I will post pics for all to see....It will actually turn on when the current is off seems simple to build, got the plans off reef central. It will not be useful tonight but in the future I bet it will come in handy. The worst part of the night, was one of my windows blowing in. I worked on the dang thing for 30 minutes and soaked the inside carpet and myself. After I fixed it back and preached Sunday School to the neighbors...LOL....The seal on the outside broke free and WATER STARED POURING into our 1999, new to us, Suwanee home....What the heck do they make starter homes out of these days Card board? Fixed it with duct tape and trash bags, had to climb on my roof in this nasty weather, but it hasn't leaked in 2 hours and I think the worst is behind us...............FINGERS CROSSED!

Power went out in Buford for a while, enough to make me think about why I haven't bought a generator yet...

... ice storms this winter will also be a topic for discussion, so I think before Jeanne or any other storms come around, I need to make a purchase.

Yupper, took us plenty of time to get home yesterday from Buckhead. And outside of one or two minute long flickers, we kept power. Those apc units earned their money yesterday, but I still turned off my MH just in case.

I ordered 5 battery powered airpumps last week in advance of Ivan, since you can't find a generator for sale in the metro area right now it seems I'll be buying one from Lowes whenever they get them back in stock, so I don't have to worry about ice storms this winter.

Clay-- would you happen to have the link to that info on RC?
Our power was out for 12 hrs yesterday but fortunately we were home and able to keep the tank circulated and at 80deg.
I heard that many of the retail stores have been shipping their generators to Florida-- I've been all over the place for the past two weeks looking for one.
