Wave making in tank
I am looking for old or new Tunze's or something else that will make waves in my tank. I am not into spending $700 on a pair of Tunze's. So if the old systems are coming down, or sitting in the garage, let me know.
As Monty Hall says "Let's make a deal!"

I read somewhere that I think Tom Wyatt was taking a normal maxi jet power head and modifying it to be similiar to a tunze. There is a thread somwhere on reefcentral.com about it too. I'll look for the thread or maybe Tom can chime in. I thought that would be a great DIY project for the club if it is not too complicated.

I can proly do a pair of 6080s with magnet holders for about $300. One is about 3-4 months old and the other is about 5-6months old. They are currently in one of my 180s so they havent been sitting up. They are not controllable (tidal) if thats what you meant by wavemaking but if your tank is 180gallons or smaller they would make plenty of waves. I am only interested in selling the pair. LMK

I looked in the DIY section and want to DIY some power heads into wave makers. They just used 600 power heads and showed a video of the output. Man I was really impressed. I am going to use my rio1200 to make one.

yeh i have two of those in my tank.they work really good.i wouldnt waste my money on tunze until i tried them out.im using them on maxi jet 600's.flow is awesome for the investment.like 25 bucks and thats if you dont already have the powerhead.if you have some maxi jets laying around it will cost you like 5-10 bucks.

If you are a DIY'er, you may want to consider building one or two Carlson surge devices. Can't say if they are that effective, but they would be ultra-inexpensive. I know Porter did one of these at FS&M a while back, not sure if it's still there or not. I'd think if it was a smaller tank, it would work better, but maybe it's something to do a search on. I know there used to be a bunch of plans on how to do this. Just need a salt bucket, some plumbing parts and a power head or pump.
HTH,
Chris
