Want to dive with Sylvia Earle? FYI article

This article was in the latest issue of SCUBA DIVING e-newsletter DEPTH FINDER...

Sylvia Earle Leads Coral Preservation Dive Trip
Renowned marine biologist Sylvia Earle leads a coral habitat preservation trip January 11-18 to Turneffe Islands Atoll, Belize, where divers can learn about coral habitat preservation and listen to Dr. Earle's evening talks on marine biodiversity. Divers will headquarter at Blackbird Resort for eight days, with up to three dives per day with Dr. Earle. The cost is $2,045 to $2,450 per person, and a five-day option is available. This function is a benefit for the nonprofit Oceanic Society's Turneffe coral habitat preservation program.

Sylvia Earle played a great role in pioneering oceanography. In 1970, just one year after the Apollo moon landing, she and her all-female team of scientists spent two weeks under water, a groundbreaking feat that attained national media coverage. Next, NASA established Tektite, an underwater sea habitat located 50 feet beneath the surface of Lameshur Bay off the U.S. Virgin Island of St. John, where Earle observed marine life around the clock and later shared her findings in a report to Congress. She's since helped the Ocean Conservancy launch The State of the Coral Reefs of the U.S. Virgin Islands, a new book addressing the losses this marine ecosystem has sustained due to manmade and natural stressors. Earle continues her research with this unique trip—and you have the chance to join her.

For more information about this expedition, contact the Oceanic Society at (415) 441-1106 or (800) 326-7491, or log on to www.oceanicsociety.org.

I'm old enough to remember when Syliva Earle was sooo hot and I wanted to work with her, but then I'm not a woman so I was excluded.

That'd be a cool trip. I've stayed on Ambergris Cay which used to be the jumping off point to Turneffe, but I think there's dozen's of resorts near there now.
