UV Protective glass

Is there any particular kind of glass to use over lights? If so, where is the best place to get it?

Hi Brian,

That depends on the lights themselves. I guess you are referring to Metal Halides, if so I have used as a replacement heat shield glass (pinkish in colour). It workded perfectly, but expensive. It also has the property of not smashing into a thousand pieces when been splashed.

Pls never run a double ended MH without a glass shield you will probably kill everything in sight in a very short time.

Single ended bulbs are fine (i believe) to be used without a safety shield this is from a UV point not a splash resistant point of view.

Any toughend safety glass i've heard is fine, as glass naturally has a UV shield built in it.

The best option is to contact your MH manufacturer and ask for a replacement glass. Firstly it will fit and secondly you know its got all the right levels of filtering.

I hope this helped.

Regards

Simon
