Up stairs tank?

We finally found a house and now we are under contract.....

It was fun unitil I realized I will be in debt forever!

This new house has an open family room that has stairs that leed up to the second floor. The second floor has a room that is really set up for an office or just a reading room...No doors just a section of the second floor that is open. (Above the den...)

Now my question is would this support my 90 gallon tank and 20 gallon sump and 150 lbs of southdown and rock etc.

I could put it in that room in the very corner of the house and it would be awsome. I really don't want it in my den because it distracts me from the tv...LOL

But the den has a perfect sump room behind it....(coat closet under the stairs) there is a wall in the den that is just wide enough for the tank...Simple sit the sump in the closet and run hose through the wall and into the tank...complete silence....That would be nice....

What do yall think? Should I be afraid to put that much weight upstairs? The house was built in 1999 so it brand new....If I put the sump in the closet will it get to hot there is no moving air in the closet...I guess I could just put a fan on the sump........

Thanks
Clay

Just for what you've listed you're looking a over a half ton to support. You're probibly ok, particularly if you set up the tank so that its perpendicular (across) the floor joists and against a load bearing wall. Just to be safe though, I'd try to get a hold of the builder and ask them what they think.

I'd be concerned about the floor shifting and causing the tank not to be level, but I'm paranoid. I had a 75 gallon tank set up on a 2nd floor and had it go out of level after it was set up. One of the panes of glass started to seperate. Fortunately, I was able to get the tank broken down before I had any problems with it.

Cheers...Michael

Thanks micheal...

I remember the 75 gallon situation you had. The inspector is going to be at the house on Friday I will go out and ask him what he thinks.

I don't know if I could find the builder....But it is the very corner of the house so it probably supports alot.

I had the new house inspected today. Passed with flying colors...I only have one bad outlet to have the owner fix and that is it. Inspector said it was in awsome condition!

I took some pictures while he was working of the new tank home and the sump room....I found out the sump room has a wall outlet, and the fuse pannel is on the other side of the wall in the garage if I need more current. Only problem is the den has 3 windows and a door that has a window. I could have algae problems with this but oh well its really the only place to put it unless I go upstairs. The inspector wouldn't give me a for sure on putting it up stairs, he said he dosn't exactly know what pieces of lumber were used to build the house....So who knows if it will hold 1500 lbs....
