two posts in one

1st I don't think that this hobby is for the lazy. Knowning that I need to clean my return pumps once every few months or so I keep putting it off. So today I'm looking but the T4 is not pumping. Had to spend about an hour getting the build up cal off.
2nd that clean up crew that I got from Dale at the last meeting is doing a super job. After I got the T4 up and pumping again, looked at the tank for a while and didn't see any aiptasia(3 peppermint shrimp).

Sifting Sand?

OK, this probably sounds really stupid, but has anyone ever tried to seperate different grades of sand? I've got a 6" ish bed in one of my sumps that is stratified with coarser sand towards the bottom. Calfo tells me this has to go. I want to try to save the other finer sand and miracle mud if possible. Does anyone have any ideas?

Even more stupid

Ok so i am really clueless. That last post was supposed to be a new thread. I was actually going to ask what kind of cal supplement you use that caused the build up. I run esv bionic for over a year now and it really works great. BTW those peppermint shrimp really are the ticket. Went from over 50 aptasia to 0 in less than 1 month with 3 of those little buggers, and i had tired everything else. Glad to hear they worked out!
