Ive had two Flame Hawks. One I had with shrimp and actually had him in a holding tank at about 1 gal per cube and he never ate the cleaner shrimp. I traded them to a friend when I moved a second time. The one that I have now eats shrimp. The size of the shrimp has a lot to do with him eating them or not. Luckily the hawks dont get too big. Niether one of the flames seem to care for hermits and both of them only bother the snails by perching on them while they are grazing the sides of the tank. As far as the Longnose Butterfly your on your own there.

I thought the hiding fish were the ones that needed more space, so their own little bubble wasnt invaded as often. the more open and social fish can be packed together I thought.

Ive never tried the butterfly. If you want a butterfly the pyramid butterfly is supposedly reefsafe but not near as pretty. I havent tried the longnose hawk only the flame and Im 1 for 2 on that one. I like hawks and would rather have one of those than a shrimp any day.

I've kept several longnose hawk fish over the years and never had one that I wouldn't consider reef-safe. The longnose will consume the same pods that the mandarin you like needs to eat so I would pick one or the other in your system unless you get a sizable refugium. The longnose is a jumper so make sure your system is covered.

Feeds on a wide variety of animal prey including hydroids, fish eggs, small crustaceans but prefers tube feet of echinoderms, pedicilaria of sea urchins, and polychaete tentacles (Ref. 1602). Oviparous (Ref. 205), monogamous (Ref. 52884)
this from fishbase,

Personally, I wouldn't risk a shrimp with a hawkfish. It could wind up a pricey snack. I had to switch tanks to remove a huge 6" hawkfish so I could have cleaner shrimps again so I won't be getting another.

Anyone ever watched a hawkfish kinda yawn and how big they can open their mouth!!!
