Tuxedo Urchin Care...need some help

I bought a tuxedo urchin this weekend, and its doing really well......and I want to keep it that way. Can some more experienced reefers give me a little care info. I know the basics, but thought there might be some things I don't know yet. The LFS told me that they eat alot, and that I should possibly feed it dried sushi seaweed to supplement its diet. Whats the best way to go about feeding an urchin, and how do I know if it needs extra food other than what it is finding in my tank. I put a small piece of seaweed between the urchin and the glass and it appeared to chew on it, but I'm not sure how much seaweed to put in, or how often. Also, will the seaweed decay and cause my water parameters to go out of wack. Any extra info would be great. Thanks.

I'd be interested in knowing this as well. I don't feed mine, as he seems to feed just fine on his own based on all the coraline he's eating!! You can clearly see where mine leave little trails of white behind them.

From my observations, they don't really go to food sources. Rather, they seem to wander blindly around the tank (mostly at night). Has anyone "trained" their urchins to go eat seaweed in a particular spot each day?

You can target feed nori. I feed my diadema nori pieces and he chows down.

You just stick it right by him? Does he eat it all, or sort of nibble on it and leave? What size piece does he get?

Whatever my tangs leave attached to the food clip, my tuxedo urchin is usually there within a few hours to finish off the rest.

My tuxedo will take nori also if I just clip it near him seems to prefer my coraline though but it grows so fast in my tank I'm glad I have something to keep it under control. Even still I'm constantly scraping it off of the front glass otherwise it seems to be a fairly maintenence free creature. though he does have an annoying tennency to carry may snails arround on his spines .

my urchin is a black long spine type. came in on the live rock as a dot and is now the size of a ping pong ball. never fed any extra stuff.

mine eat red and green bubble, HA, wiry briopsis, three types of caulerpa that i had, some stuff i had that looked kinda sargassum-like, and i think they munched my halimeda, they also chowed down on the film algae that was on my glass. they eat a lot and they eat it fast. i guess a good way to know if they are getting enough is to watch for poo... they will poo a lot if they are eating well!
