Wouldn't that drop my water level though? Right now the reason it is facing all of the way up is because of the water level.

Milhouse,

I suspect it would, but you can adjust the level by increasing or decreasing the diameter of the hole in your tee fitting's cap (if this is similar to a durso overflow were the hole is designed to break the syphon). I believe the larger the hole the higher the water level. In my over flow, the water level sits at about the top half of the elbow.

Though w/ out the overflow box you may have problems w/ level fluctuation. It could be that you can create some type of cap for the elbow as it is installed now and not have to turn it around. The elbow is 1.5" correct?

It is 1.5 inch, if need be I can have an overflow made from acrylic. Given the amount of trouble, and a 58 going for 320 or so I am wondering if it isnt just worth it to have things act the way I want though.

Quite a bit in this hobby comes down to the question of "Do I put up with the current method/situation/capability or drop the bucks to get what I want?"

Can't you just rotate the elbow a little, so that only one side is up out of the water?

Tried it, still get noise. I am thinking the 58 with the Oceanic overflow kit may be my answer. I know there are ways to quiet this thing, but the easy out may be the way this time.

where abouts are you in ATL? i have a similar set up running about 3600 gph (i think) and it took me about 3 weeks of every day working on it before i got it quiet.
come over and take a look at it.

if its the sound of water rushing down the pipes then i think you are looking for different advice than already received.....

you can also see a 65 gal oceanic rr if interested in buying it.
