Thinking big... bigger. 75G
Okay I've rethinked my decision to stay at 30" long tank and I'm considering a 48".. I guess because I want this to be done right the first time and not want to go bigger.
So 48x18x20 *75G* is the size I think I will be shooting for. I'd like to hear everyone's pros/cons for going this size as opposed to a smaller 37G 30" tank or a 55G 36" or even the bigger 90G, which is just 4 more inches taller.
Anyone wanting to sell a tank this size and a stand, please let me know.
I also need advice as to what else I need. This will be a reef tank... maybe not immediately, but eventually.
Oceanic or AGA? Any others to consider?
Do I need a Skimmer? Sump? Filter? Lighting? and which one do you all recommend? Oh and prices, please... if anyone owns a shop, by all means, email me prices. I'm on a tight budget, but I would still rather spend a little more now than a lot later.
Many thanks in advance,
Chris

Just be patient there is usually a tank in that size range that comes up FS every month or so.

Why not go 120 or 150
They are 48" wide but alot deeper.
A 55 gallon is only 12" deep, I don't like the one I have a whole lot because it is hard to build nice size caves with large pieces of live rock.
I am going 120 or 150 but I need to get out of my apt first, don't want to wet the neighbors below me!

Okay back to square one. Although I think I've found my perfect match, the Oceanic 37G show tank. I'm having a friend contact a friend about a guy that will do a RR 37G for a good price.
Next question, which lighting? MH is too much for me. So which PC lighting would you all recommend me to get?
the tank's ~ 22" deep I think? I would like to be able to do a clam, if possible.
next, which rock, and sand could someone recommend to me.. prices/location, etc..
thanks for the input,
chris

got your lights+tank+whatever right here
Seriously, you should get the larger tank. Rover is right, get a t5 setup. I have a 75 g oceanic RR+stand in washed oak with a sump and pump. I also have almost everything else you might need too, but most of it is on ebay. If you're interested pm me. The t5's are very cool. I bought a 4 bulb set right before getting a 150g. Its still in the box about to be sent back to reefgeek. I did fire it up though, and it, at 216 watts was much brighter than my 2x96 watt jbj pc fixture (also for sale). Not to mention the pc's get hot as hell and you could still lay hands on the t5's after several hours. Seriously, unless you can get one heck of a deal on pc you should go t5. Im just waiting for a 72" set to get made for my 150

What is T5? Please excuse my ignorance. And do you have any lights in the 24" variety.

T5 is a size specific type of flour bulb.
The number represents the bulb diam in 8ths of an inch.
T5 = flour bulb with a diam of 5/8"
T8 = diam of 8/8" or 1"
T12 = diam of 12/8" or 1 1/2"
With the smaller diam you can fit more bulbs in the same amount of space. They are also brighter because the same amount of light output is comming from a smaller bulb.
They are the up and comming new wave of lighting for non MH people. Currently there isn't as many bulb color or size choices as T8 or T12 or PC's but as they gain in popularity I'm sure more bulb choices and lengths will be manufactured.
