TDS of your tap water?
Hey everybody - I just got a TDS meter, and was pleasantly surprised to get a reading of 42ppm directly from my tap. I'm curious to see what others in the area get before any kind of filtration.
I'm also curious to see what I'm getting at the various stages of my RO/DI filter- IE - I wonder if I get close to 0 TDS by just running through a carbon block filter... if it'd be close, it'd be great to not waste the water by using the RO cartridge....

Within Range
I live in Decatur, near the Former Avondale Mall, and I get 40 ppm when I test my tap water. It makes sense, as we are on the same water system (DeKalb Co.)
I found that the TDS dropped about 10 ppm running through the prefilter. My TDS after the RO/DI stage is 0.

I live in Fulton/City of Atlanta. I run all my house's water through the standard polyester filter for dirt. Then it is 24 ppm [last night] and 01 ppm after RO/DI. Publix dispenser water was a little higher like 4-5 and if my water gets there, that is when I change prefilters.

About 36 in Cumming. 2 after RO and 0 after DI
The other thing you could try is filter it with various filters down to .5 micron then use just a DI cartridge. The DI cartridge is what cleans the water most effectivly, the RO part makes the DI cartridges last longer.

Speaking of TDS meters, I think the battery died in mine. I have the Hanna TDS meter (light blue w/ black cap), and I don't see where, or how you would replace the batteries.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Michael: I have the same TDS meter and my batteries just died too. I accidently left it on....darn! The batteries (4) cost 2.99 a piece...so $12 for the batteries and I only paid $25 for the meter. Oh well...I'll be more careful next time. I got my batteries from Eckerds. I'm sure you can get them anywhere. Just take out the batteries of the meter and bring them along to match up. Good luck.

Michael: I forgot to mention. The little black part on the top that the on/off switch is on lifts right out for the batteries. HTH
