GLENN,please forgive my negligence i will get up to your store to say hello and pick up my salt .. im sure i waited way to long to remain a good faith purchaser of your wonderful deal to the group...for what its worth frank, i would be very careful about changing salt brands, especially all at once. it has led to many horor stories dealing with partial and even total tank wipeouts, personally i will stick to instant ocean... as far as i can tell it works for the majority. i have never heard of oceanic . if you do change into to it at least do it very slowly.

According to sales rep from oceanic,
Quote:
"Oceanic is made in the same facility that the IO is made and uses the same process and formulation..."
I don't know if I believe this or not, as the only way this came out was when I mentioned that I preferred IO in the long run. Wade from the NC frag group also told me this, so I dunno, might be interesting to see if it is, would be nice to have someone run an analysis comparison, if any of you have access to a GC, I can tell you how to run a direct comparison.

I will check on this with Oceanic. It is possible as it is the same way with Kent salt. Instant Ocean makes Kent's salt in their mixer and just adds a few extra ingredients. So basically they are the same thing. I will let you guys know what I find out.

Do a Search on Reef Central, they had a lengthy thread on salt comparison. If you can't find the thread over there, just post the question and someone will direct you to the thread or other information.

Just curious, has anyone been using that oceanic salt very long? It seems maybe two months ago is the first I ever heard of it. I did go between IO and Kent's, and It seemed like I had to dose calcium a bit heavier but didn't really have no bad side effects (couldn't find kent's anywhere at the time).

The Kent sales rep told us at last August's meeting that their salt is produced at the same facility as IO, except they ship all of their ingredients to the facilty where they just mix/produce it.

Oceanic is a tank manufacturer, so it's highly unlikely that they are making their own salt. Whether or not IO is doing the production I haven't heard yet. I'll be attending the APPMA show in a week or so and will be making a point to stop by the Oceanic booth.
